The Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) in North East Syria faces its greatest existential threat yet from the Syrian transitional government, with regional and international imperialist actors exerting pressure on the region. The DAA has never been more vulnerable. Grassroots mobilization and international support are crucial to pressure the Syrian transitional government to back off and to bolster the revolution.
Effective places to apply pressure include:
- Local initiatives in different countries (e.g., US, Europe, South America)
- Supporting specific organizations or movements (e.g., Palestine Action prisoners’ hunger strike)
The situation on the ground is highly volatile, with a feeling that “everywhere can be wiped out” and every neighborhood preparing for the possibility of siege. The population has been arming themselves and taking night shifts to prepare for war.
It is crucial to elevate the voices of people on the ground and communicate their stories to comrades elsewhere, as this will strengthen bonds between movements and inspire action.
